Ferdinando Romano bass
“…a prepared musician, willing to express himself. He has an emotional point of view..”
— ALL ABOUT JAZZ
“The music of Italian bassist Ferdinando Romano beautifully captures the melodicism and relaxation so characteristic of the Italian jazz scene, but also ventures outside this scope at some point… Yusef Lateef, Enrico Pieranunzi and Kenny Wheeler are some of the names that popped up into my head while listening to Memories Reprise..
”
— JAZZTRAIL (USA)
“The high standards of the writing, the playing and the production ensure that “Totem” represents an excellent leadership début from Romano, and a remarkably mature one.”
— THE JAZZMANN (UK) – ****1/2 STARS
Invisible Painters, Ferdinando Romano’s new album, arrives three years after his debut Totem, an album that was highly praised by critics and that gave him important prizes such as the first place as ‚Best Italian Rising Star 2020‘ in Musica Jazz magazine’s annual Top Jazz and the SIAE 2021 Award.
Although it comes from the world of improvised music, this work wants to look beyond it, mixing with electronics, ambient and 20th century music and crossing the usual definitions and categories; double bass, piano, drums and bass clarinet blend their timbres with synthesisers, samples and ambient recordings, straddling digital sounds and love for analogue.
The „“Invisible Painters““ are the image of the unconscious and instinctive impulse that generates creation, the inner hand and brush with which we create extemporaneously. It is precisely in this balance between awareness and instinct, composition and extemporaneity that this music is born. [Text: Donau]
