Das Jako Quartett ist das Projekt des in Berlin lebenden griechischen Gitarristen Iakovos „Jako“ Symeonidis. Die Band spielt Eigenkompositionen von Symeonidis und Stücke aus seinem Debütalbum „Safe Place“, zusammen mit Songs aus der Jazztradition und Arrangements aus Funk und Soul. Die Band hat im Mai 2025 ein neues Album aufgenommen, das im Januar 2026 veröffentlicht wird.  Das Album enthält hauptsächlich Eigenkompositionen von Symeonidis, die mit seinen Erfahrungen als griechischer Einwanderer im Ausland zu tun haben.

Ziel der Band ist es, das Publikum durch die Kombination von Swing-, Afro- und Funk-Grooves bestmöglich zu begeistern. Ziel der Band ist es, ein neues Publikum für Jazzmusik zu begeistern und die Begeisterung für Improvisation, Spontaneität und Freiheit des Jazz zu teilen.

I first met Iakovos Symeonidis as a student at the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen Netherlands. I’ve since watched him to continue to grow and develop as a player. Iakovos embraces the great Jazz guitar tradition, and he has a strong blues foundation and beautiful tone. With his new recording Safe Place Iakovos Symeonidis shows where he’s at in the classic organ trio setting. I look forward to hearing where he heads in the future. – Dave Stryker
