Diese Band des Pianisten und Komponisten Lionel Haas macht ihrem Namen alle Ehre. Der groovig swingende Sound der Front mit drei Bläsern fegt einem wie ein gewaltiger Windstoß entgegen. Die Musik, alles Eigenkompositionen und Arrangements aus Lionel’s Feder, greift die temperamentvolle afroamerikanische Tradition auf und ist mit interessanten Kompositionen und den oft wilden Improvisationen stets ein sehr gefragter und beliebter Act.

Frühes Leben und Ausbildung

Lionel Haas wurde am 27. Dezember 1971 in Bonn geboren. Im Alter von 9 Jahren begann er mit dem Klavierunterricht und entwickelte schon früh ein Interesse an Jazz, Blues und Rock. Im Alter von 13 bis 15 Jahren besuchte er Jazz-Workshops am Richmond College in der Nähe von London, Großbritannien, was den Beginn seiner formalen Jazz-Ausbildung markierte. Während seines vierjährigen Aufenthalts in den Vereinigten Staaten engagierte sich Haas intensiv in der Jazzszene von Washington, D.C., trat an verschiedenen Orten auf und nahm an Sommerkursen am Berklee College of Music teil. Nach seiner Rückkehr nach Deutschland war Haas Mitbegründer der Bluesband Blues by Five (heute Back to Back) in Bonn und engagierte sich in Gruppen wie der Swing’n’Tonic Jazz Band und dem Voices of Praise Jubily Gospel Choir in Köln.

1998 lernte er den jamaikanischen Saxophonisten und Komponisten Fitz Gore kennen, der einen bedeutenden Einfluss auf seine musikalische Entwicklung ausübte. Diese Mentorenschaft führte zur Veröffentlichung seiner ersten CD, Breaking Free (and a Tribute to Fitz Gore), die Eigenkompositionen und Arrangements von Gores Musik enthält.

Early Life and Education

Born on December 27, 1971, in Bonn, Germany, Lionel Haas began piano lessons at age 9 and developed an early interest in jazz, blues, and rock. Career Highlights

Upon returning to Germany, Haas co-founded the blues band Blues by Five (now known as Back to Back) in Bonn and was involved in groups like the Swing’n’Tonic Jazz Band and the Voices of Praise Jubily Gospel Choir in Cologne.
