Svetlost – Everything Was as It Had Been a Minute Ago

After the furor surrounding the album with the Odron Ritual Orchestra in 2019, now the footnote in the jazz albums of Bandcamp, the pandemic came in between, followed by the Ukraine war, the economic crisis, the uncertainty – what remains of what went into the bloodstream in 2019 five years later, when you lose friends all around – politically socially mentally, or as deceased – [Everyone Who Is Gone Is Already Here] – the trio Svetlost comes from Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia – they bring the success of their first recordings, their accumulated experience, that’s what sets them apart with Ninoslav Spirovski on saxophone, Deni Omeragić on guitar and Kristijan Novkovski on drums: the music forces and drives and grooves – also on the new album – as everything was as it had been a minute ago – and persists in the moment, of which there are hardly any memories – it goes that fast – all the more the retrospective: on the history, on the stories. A brilliant trio picks up where it left off in 2019, creating something unforgettable in a large formation. Stylistically, their music moves within the framework of electro-acoustic prog rock and free jazz, they let John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme resonate just as much as the powerful beats and grooves from London, produced in Skopje by PMGJazz.
