Hayoung Choi im Pianosalon

South Korean cellist Hayoung Choi,  born in Bielefeld (Germany) in 1998, is the First Prize Winner of the 2022 Queen Elisabeth Competition for Cello. She  also won the First Prize and two special prizes at the 3rd Krzysztof Penderecki International Cello Competition in Poland 2018.

Born in Bielefeld in Germany, Hayoung Choistudied at the Korean National University of Arts Myung-Wha Chung and Hyongwon Chang, the Purcell School for Young Musicians in England with Alexander Boyarsky, and then at the Kronberg Academy, where she was taught by Frans Helmerson and Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt. She has won first prize in several international competitions, including the Krzysztof Penderecki Competition in Poland, the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Austria, the Antonio Janigro Competition in Croatia, and the Justus Dotzauer Competition in Germany. She has performed as a soloist with Kremerata Baltica, the Camerata Salzburg, the Frankfurter Opern- und Museumsorchester, the Kraków Philharmonic Orchestra the Olsztyn Philharmonic Orchestra and the Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra.

Zu den Höhepunkten ihrer noch jungen Solo-Karriere zählen ihr Debüt bei dem Boston Philharmonic Orchestra unter Benjamin Zander im November 2022, Auftritte mit der Camerata Salzburg und beim jährlich stattfindenden ›Chamber Music Connects the World‹-Festival der Kronberg Academy als Solistin mit der Kremerata Baltica.

Zudem wurde Hayoung Choi schon mit diversen Stipendien ausgezeichnet, darunter Scholarship for a Young Musician of Promise (Uttwill Schweiz), Landgraf von Hessen-Preis und das Casals Stipendium, das ihr heute das Studium an der renommierten Kronberg Academy ermöglicht. Hayoung Choi ist als Nachwuchskünstlerin nicht nur bei den großen südkoreanischen Orchestern bereits stark  gefragt, sondern sie konzertiert inzwischen auch regelmäßig in Europa.
