Orgeltrios sind Wolfgang Roggenkamps Lieblingsbesetzung, hierzu zählen zwei Berliner Trios: „The Trio“ mit Ron Spielman (voc & git), Michael Kersting (drums) und Wolfgang (voc & B3). Ein weiteres Trio ist das des Gitarristen und Bandleaders Prince Robinson (USA) und dem Drummer Chris Evans. Eine langjährige, experimentelle Formation ist die Band „Die Orgonauten“ mit Felix Wahnschaffe (alt Sax) und dem Ausnahmemusiker John Schröder (drums).

Organ trios are Wolfgang Roggenkamp’s favorite line-up, including two Berlin trios: “The Trio” with Ron Spielman (voc & git), Michael Kersting (drums) and Wolfgang (voc & B3). Another trio is that of guitarist and bandleader Prince Robinson (USA) and drummer Chris Evans. A long-standing, experimental formation is the band “Die Orgonauten” with Felix Wahnschaffe (alto sax) and the exceptional musician John Schröder (drums).
Die Orgonauten
Diese Band entstand vor 10 Jahren in Berlin. Damals fanden sich die drei ehedem noch recht jungen Musiker Wolfgang Roggenkamp an der Orgel, Felix Wahnschaffe am alt- und tenor sax und Drummer Ray Kaczynski zusammen, um die weite Welt des Blues und Soul zu entdecken. Vorbilder waren : Larry Young, Curtis Mayfield, aber auch moderne, stilistisch offene Hip Hopper wie :“ The Roots“ oder „A Tribe called Quest“. Prägend war auch der Hard Bop der 60 er Jahre. Aus dieser Zeit spielen wir das Stück „Black Jack“ von Trompeter Donald Byrd. Entstanden ist jedoch kein Cover-Repertoire, sondern eine vielfältige Mischung aus verschiedenen Eigenkompositionen, die sich an die jeweiligen Vorbilder anlehnen.
This band was formed 10 years ago in Berlin. Back then, the three musicians Wolfgang Roggenkamp on organ, Felix Wahnschaffe on alto and tenor sax and drummer Ray Kaczynski came together to discover the wide world of blues and soul. Role models were: Larry Young, Curtis Mayfield, but also modern, stylistically open hip-hoppers such as: “The Roots” or “A Tribe called Quest”. The hard bop of the 60s was also influential. We play the piece “Black Jack” by trumpeter Donald Byrd from this period. However, the result is not a cover repertoire, but a diverse mixture of various original compositions that are based on the respective role models.
