RIVER is a jazz quartet of exceptional young musicians based in Vienna, Austria. The creation of this new ensemble was spearheaded in 2022 by saxophonist Robert Unterköfler and bassist Nina Feldgrill, both award winning and accomplished musicians, and they remain the creative engine behind the group. River has a debut studio album, Chameleon Circuit, ready to be released May 16, 2024.

‚Dissensation‘ marks the debut album release from Sydney-based saxophonist Benjamin Samuels whose varied and eclectic new project serves as a scintillating introduction to this emerging new artist.

Samuels firmly asserts himself amongst a really fascinating crop of Australian musicians keen to present inspired and broad perspectives to jazz.  Artists like Godtet, Horatio Luna and David Versace are becoming renown for their effortless ability to regard jazz as a lawless entity, free to be adapted and representative of contemporary styles and trends.  

This soulful and introspective album transcends genres, blending the captivating elements of contemporary jazz, soul, and RnB. A captivating journey that mirrors the artist’s profound perspective, ‚Dots‘ invites listeners to explore the nuances of solitary moments, the strength in closure, and the resilience found in the smallest details.

Der Titel Ville blomster ist auch ein Verweis auf die Natur. „Es wird immer wichtiger, sich um das Unberührte und Wilde zu kümmern, und der erste Track beschreibt eine Art Traum, dass man ein unberührtes Gebiet mit wilden Blumen findet, wo die Natur nicht in Gefahr ist, zerstört zu werden. So wie die Natur ein Freiraum für uns ist, wollen wir, dass die Musik auf diesem Album ein Zufluchtsort für diejenigen ist, die zuhören.“ – Liv

Es ist das Spröde was mich anzieht, das Nachdenkliche in ihrer Musik. Nach dem ersten Hören, war ich nicht wirklich bewegt. Aber irgendwie hörte ich mir ihre Musik immer wieder an und entdeckte die Feinheiten, den Charme, das Intime. Das ist nicht ECM-Like. Nein. US based Finnish pianist Anni Kiviniemi debuts her trio featuring bassist Eero Tikkanen and drummer Hans Hulbaekmo (from Gard Nilssen’s Supersonic Orchestra and Moskus). The new album „Eir“, out on We Jazz Records 12 Jan 2024, is an introspective, moody, yet swinging trio set comprising of 8 Kiviniemi originals. Modeled for a classic jazz piano trio, Kiviniemi’s music reaches far beyond, bringing together influences from classical music, Norwegian musical tradition and North African music.

The band plays original songs that combine elements of the singer/songwriter genre with the unpredictable world of jazz. They combine catchy melodies and relatable, down-to-earth lyrics with beautiful harmonies, quirky time signatures and improvisation. This creates a unique sound that is characteristic of the band and should be experienced live.

Jeanne Michard (born September 6, 1993) began playing the saxophone at the age of 7. Strongly influenced by jazz culture, she also gravitates towards Latin and world music. She began on alto saxophone, then took up soprano, tenor, baritone and flute, keeping tenor and alto as her main instruments.

Swiss saxophone player Sara El Hachimi is a reflective musician who knows how to let her feelings, visions and thoughts flow into the music and be reflected in it. Her music and improvisation is sensitive, gentle and intelligent and testify to the power that flows from within and can reach the listener. Believing profoundly in the potency of authentic self-expression, Sara views her musical journey as a means of contributing positively to the world.

„I find that I write my best music when I allow myself to be inspired by the beauty of consuming art in its varying forms, from Pablo Neruda’s ‘Ode to a beautiful nude’, to Jean Michel Basquiat’s ‘Untitled’ to Vaslav Nijinsky’s choreography for ‘Rite of Spring’. During the start of my creative process for ‘Babyteeth’, I wanted to create a sound world that have the colours of a Debussy suite combined with the raw punk aesthetic of Nirvana.“
