Seine kompositorische Eigenheit und den unverwechselbaren Ausdruck auf dem Instrument hat er in langjähriger Bandleadertätigkeit für MANKO entwickelt, einem herausragenden Quintett der internationalen Improvisationsszene mit Philipp Gropper (tenor), Otis Sandsjö (tenor), Robert Lucaciu (b), Florian Lauer (dr) und Asger Uttrup Nissen (alt). Produziert wird die Band von dem schwedischen Bassisten Petter Eldh. Des weiteren spielt Alexander zusammen mit dem Berliner Schlagzeuger Nathan Ott und dem französischen Bassisten Louis Navarro in dem Trio ekko. 2023 erscheint ekkos Debütalbum „turbolent“.

Der Wahl-Berliner Alexander Rueß ist freischaffender Gitarrist, Komponist und Produzent. Er spielte in der Konzertbesetzung des BundesJazzOrchesters (BuJazzO) 2018/19 und schloss ein Studium am Jazz-Institut in Berlin und dem Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium in Kopenhagen ab. Rueß‘ tänzerisches Spiel ist von lyrischer
Leichtigkeit geprägt und wird häufig von einer nordischen Melancholie
kontrastiert. Konzerttourneen führten ihn quer durch Westeuropa sowie nach Japan, Kanada und in die USA.

“The sound of the jazz trio ekko is dense and delicate at the same time. It always remains transparent; it is allowed to breathe, it is allowed to float. Instead of shining individually, however, the three prefer to shine together. Elastic and flexible, they navigate through unconventionally structured soundscapes.”

He has developed his compositional idiosyncrasy and unmistakable expression on the instrument over many years as bandleader for MANKO, an outstanding quintet on the international improvisation scene with Philipp Gropper (tenor), Otis Sandsjö (tenor), Robert Lucaciu (b), Florian Lauer (dr) and Asger Uttrup Nissen (alto). The band is produced by the Swedish bassist Petter Eldh. Alexander also plays in the trio ekko together with the Berlin drummer Nathan Ott and the French bassist Louis Navarro. Ekko’s debut album “turbolent” was released in 2023.
